Why is the Novel Titled 'Pride and Prejudice'?
Jane Austen originally wrote the first draft under the title First Impressions. However, after major revisions, she renamed it to Pride and Prejudice. This change elevated the book from a simple comedy to a profound psychological study.
The Double Mirror
Darcy represents Pride (due to his high status) and Elizabeth represents Prejudice (due to her quick judgment). However, Austen shows that both characters possess both flaws, forming a double mirror of self-correction that they must undergo.
